TUITION AND REGISTRATION
The cost of the tuition for each individual program is described in page 18. There is a Registration Fee for each program to reserve a seat in the class of your choice, with the balance of the tuition due and payable before the first day of class.
The registration fee will be applied towards the total cost of the program and is non-refundable.

HOUSING
Due to the popularity of Fort Lauderdale as a vacation resort, there are several hotels within a mile (and even at walking distance) as well as public transportation to and from the school.
A list of local hotels can be provided to the students at their request. Movie theaters and restaurants are within a short walking distance from the school.
Shopping malls are within a mile.

PLACEMENT
The school cannot guarantee employment directly or indirectly implied. However, all efforts will be expended to assist the graduates of the ASJ Certified Jeweler Technician, ASJ Certified Store Manager Jeweler and ASJ Certified Bench Jeweler with Job placement at no charge.

PROGRESS, TESTING, GRADING SYSTEM
The progress of the student will be measured by a Final Exam in which the student must obtain a minimum score of 75% to accomplish a passing grade. In order to successfully complete the class, the student will also have to complete the daily projects in class within the instructor's degree of satisfaction.

ABSENCES, MAKE UP WORK, TARDINESS, INTERRUPTIONS
1-A student will be granted a leave of absence providing there is a valid reason such as illness, emergency, or any sufficient reason with the proper documentation to sustain it.
If the reason is not considered to be valid or there is not enough documentation to support it, the School will have the right to terminate the student.
The student may re-enter to complete the education within six months from the leave of absence at no charge, providing that the reason for the termination was beyond his/her control, however, the student will be subject to the existence of a vacancy.
2-Make up work will not be accepted unless the student was granted a leave of absence.
3-The students are expected to begin class on time, frequent tardiness without proper justification could result in student termination.
4-Unjustified or repeated interruptions during class could result in student dismissal or termination.
5-No beepers or phones allowed inside of the classrooms.

STUDENT RECORDS AND ATTENDANCE
The school will keep records of the student's daily attendance and Final Exam score permanently.
These records will be available to students and/or potential employers only with the written request of the student. For those students who are denied entry or dismissed from the school records will remain on file for at least one year.

CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS EDUCATION
This school does not provide credits for previous education or training.

FINANCIAL AID
State Approving  Agency for Veterans Training and Vocational Rehabilitation Services will provide financial aid to those who qualify.

CLASSROOM CLOCK HOUR
1 Hour classroom clock hour = 55 minutes

REFUND AND CANCELLATION FEE
Should an applicant/student cancel or be terminated for any reason, all refunds will be made according to the following policy and refund schedule with the exception of the registration fee, not to exceed $150.00 and applicable deposit:                                                                                                                1-Cancellation must be made in person or sent by Certified Mail to "American School of Jewelry".
2-All monies, not including the Registration fee, will be refunded if the school does not accept the applicant or if the student cancels within three (3) business days after signing the enrollment agreement, and making initial payment.
3-Cancellation after the third (3rd) business day, but before the first class, will result in a refund of all monies paid with the exception of the registration fee and applicable deposit.
4-Cancellation after attendance has begun, but prior to 40% of the completion of the program, will result in a Pro Rata refund computed on the number of hours completed to the total program hours.
5-Cancellation after completing 40% or more of the program will result in no refund.
6-Termination date. The calculation of the termination date for refund computation purposes is the last date of actual attendance by the student, unless earlier written notice is received.
7-Refunds will be made within thirty (30) days of termination or receipt of cancellation notice.
8-A student can be dismissed, at the discretion of the Director, for insufficient progress, non-payment of costs, or failure to comply with rules.

CANCELLATION AND TERMINATION POLICY

3-Disobedience or disrespectful behavior towards other students or any instructor, administrator or any other school official, will be sufficient reason for the termination of the student.
4-Any student intentionally creating a safety hazard will be terminated.
5-In order for the student to obtain a Certificate of completion or Diploma as applicable, he/she must attend 95% of all classes as well as participate in the practical exercises during class hours.

LIABILITY                                                                                                                              The school assumes no responsibility for injuries or other damages induced by the students on their person or their own or other student's personal properties. Student behavior and the proper use of the facilities will be practiced in accordance to school regulations.

GRIEVANCE POLICY
In the event a student believes that a school decision or action has adversely affected his/her status, rights or privileges as a student, he/she can enter a grievance procedure. The student should first meet with the Director of Education and complete a written statement. If the grievance is not resolved, then the Executive Director will review it with all parties concerned. The Executive Director's decision is final. Students who feel a grievance is unresolved may refer their grievance to Executive Director, Commission for Independent Education, 325 W. Gaines St. #1414, Tallahassee, FL 32399, Toll Free 888-224-6684.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
In order to register in the "American School of Jewelry", the applicant must be at least 18 years old or have the authorization of a parent or guardian.
The applicant must have a high school diploma, equivalent or be able to demonstrate that he/she is capable of learning by successfully complete and pass our "Basic Skills Test".
The Registration Fee for each program must be submitted with the Application Form and is Non Refundable!
The applicant will be considered enrolled when a fully completed enrollment agreement and registration fee has been received and approved by the "American School of Jewelry".
If the specific course requested by the applicant has been filled, the enrollment agreement together with the registration fee will be returned with indication of the next available class opening.
An Admission will be denied, should the applicant not comply with the herein described requirements for admission.

CATALOG
A new school catalog is available in January of each new year.


The Following Rules Apply to Veterans Only

CREDIT FOR PREVIOUS EDUCATION - VETERANS ONLY
Credit for previous education and training will be evaluated and granted to all students if appropriate, with training time shortened and tuition reduced proportionately.

LEAVE OF ABSENCE - VETERANS ONLY
With compliance to Veteran Regulations leave of absence for Veteran students can only be granted by the VA and not by the school.

VETERANS ATTENDANCE POLICY
Excused absences will be granted for extenuating circumstances only. Excused absences will be substantiated by entries in student's files.
Early departures, class cuts, tardies, etc., for any portion of an hour will be counted as a full hour of absence.
Students exceeding three (3) days unexcused absences in a calendar month WILL BE TERMINATED for unsatisfactory attendance.

VETERANS REFUND POLICY
The refund of the unused portion of tuition, fees, and other charges for Veterans or eligible persons who fail to enter a course or withdraw or discontinue prior to completion will be made for all amounts paid which exceed the approximate pro rata portion of the total charges that the length of the completed portion of the course bears to the total length of the course. The proration will be determined on the ratio of the number of days or hours of instruction completed by the student to the total number of instructional days or hours in the course.
