COURSE DESCRIPTION:

Learn to custom make your own designs starting from an idea. During this course you will be guided to complete a set of designs utilizing different techniques. After you complete this class you will be able to custom make and mass produce your own designs.

Understanding how wax designing works: General explanation of the lost wax method: from the creation of the model to the completion of the pieces.

The course consists in the hands-on the completion of projects with different designing techniques and levels of difficulty.

Creation of a three dimensional piece: Create a life like dolphin. In this exercise attention will be paid to the size and weight of the wax piece, and the role the weight plays in the actual casting process.

Solitaire ring: Learn to plan and perform a channel setting solitaire ring for a specific size stone and ring size.

Preparation for Casting: Discussion for the proper set up and placement of designs. Appropriate placement of a spruce in preparation for mold making and casting. Burnout process. Students will be guided through the entire casting process. Firing of the kiln and melting of the metals. Overall finishing techniques of designs.

Initial ring: Layout and creation of initial rings. Hands-on from the planning stages to the completion of the project.

Dome ring: Planning and design of a dome ring. During this project, the students will add their own design to personalize a unique creation.

Techniques for sheet and soft wax: Creation of a design utilizing the soft wax will be explored. Learn to make the proper decision for picking the proper wax type to be used during the construction of each individual model.

Prong ring: layout of a ring with multiple prongs starting with an idea and a set of stones.

Rubber mold: Learn how to properly plan and assemble a rubber mold in order to recreate your original masterpieces. Vulcanizing, cutting and injecting of the mold hands-on.

Matching wedding band: Learn the steps to follow when planning a matching wedding band that will perfectly fit onto an engagement ring.
